Study on epidemiological situation and control strategies of HIV/AIDS among men who have sex with men in Foshan from 2008 to 2010

Objective To analyze the epidemiological situation among men who have sex with men(MSM) in Foshan,and discuss prevention and control strategies of HIV/AIDS.Method Sentinel surveillance of HIV/AIDS among MSM in Foshan was carried out from 2008 to 2010.Investigated the HIV/AIDS related knowledge,high risk behaviors and HIV/AIDS prevalence among MSM,and analyzed the results.Results The HIV infection rates among MSM in Foshan were 3.37%,5.88%,9.13% in 2008,2009 and 2010,respectively.Meanwhile,the ratios of condom use of anal sex during the last six months were only 33.71%,42.88% and 49.55%.But the HIV/AIDS awareness rate in 2010 was higher than in 2008,which reached to 85.71% in 2010.Conclusions HIV infection among MSM in Foshan came to rapid growth period,which has become the key point to HIV/AIDS prevention and control in the present and future.In order to keep down prevalence of HIV/AIDS among MSM,we need to expand VCT service,strengthen high-risk behavior intervention,condom promotion,peer education and patients care,and so on.
