Abstract

Objective To assesses the efficac y and safety of intralesional injection of Pingyangmycin for hemangiomas and vascu lar malformations in head and neck including oral and maxillofacial region.Metho ds A systematic review of all relevant clinical trials in Chinese literature was performed using electric and hand searching. The reported sex,age ranges, the typ e,site, size of the tumors and the treatment results were identified and analyzed with conflation algorithm. Results All the included31articles were clinical retr ospective trials without random and control. The curative rates of Pingyangmycin were100%for acquired hemangioma,72.6%for cavernous hemangioma,65.0%for mixed hem angioma,64.6%for capillary hemangioma(66.0%for strawberry type),60%for vascular tumor,21.4%for fibrous hemangioma,4.8%for port wine stain, respectively.Pingyangm ycin had no effect on plexiform hemangioma. Conclusions Pingyangmycin is effectiv e for hemangioma and vascular malformations from the present data.Further random ized prospective controlled trials are needed using the new classification of Wa ner and Suen(1995)to draw reliable conclu-sions.
