Epidemiological study of scrub typhus disease in Yancheng city during 2006 to 2010

Objective To analyze the epidemiological and etiological characteristics of scrub typhus during the past 5 years in Yancheng city,and investigate the prevention and control measures.Method Collecting the information about the epidemic of scrub typhus,detecting the Orientia tsutsugamushi in the patients' blood and conducting the related molecular biological study,carrying out the seroepidemiological study for people and animal scrub typhus.Results From 2006 to 2010,there were 399 scrub typhus patients in Yancheng city and distributing in all the counties(cities).The epidemic started at October and ended at December,the peak time was November.The major patients were quinquagenarian.Orientia tsutsugamushi was isolated from 1 patient's serum and the genotype was Kawasaki determination by molecular techniques and comparison of gene homology.The IgG positive rate of Anti-Orientia tsutsugamushi in serum of people over the age of 15 was 1.85% and the IgG positive rate of cattle was 3.4%.Conclusions The epidemic focus of scrub typhus distributed in all the counties(cities) of Yancheng city and would last for long time,but the genotype hadn't changed.
