Abstract

Ventricular septal defect(VSD) is the most common congenital heart defect, which accounts for approximately 20% of congenital heart defects.Surgical closure, considered as standard treatment,of VSD has been performed for many years. It remains associated with noticed morbidity and mortality.Transcatheter techniques have been developed in the last 10 years and the devices of the Amplatzer family have achieved a large popularity in clinical practice,as the most common used devices in muscular and perimembranous VSD closure.Percutaneous closure is safe and effective, with significantly reduction of mortality and complications.
