The MTHFR gene C677T mutation may be a protective factor in the onset of childhood ALL and was detected in healthy controls and patients with ALL.
Abstract
Objective:To investigate the relationship between the gene polymorphism of methylenetetrahytrofo late reductase gene and the onset of childhood acute lymphocytic leukemia(ALL). Method:The assay of polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism (PCR-RFLP) was used to detect MTHFR gene C677T mutation in 53 healthy controls and 51 childhood patients with ALL. Result:The frequencies of MTHFR gene 677C→T polymorphism in patients were significantly lower than those in healthy controls ( P 0. 05). Conclusion: The MTHFR gene C677T mutation may be a protective factor in the onset of childhood ALL.
