tlooto Summary

Brazil's 2017 high school reform limits students' access to knowledge, potentially hindering psychic development and exacerbating social inequalities.

Abstract

The reform of high school, instituted in 2017, through Law No. 13,415/2017, was launched as an innovative and promising proposal to reorganize the last years of Brazilian primary education, which seeks to meet the yearnings for improvements in education and training of adolescents and youth in the country. However, its curriculum structure signals for a relaxation of teaching in this educational stage. Thus, the present work aims to discuss the possible implications of the reform of high school in the process of psychic development of students, taking as a basis the theoretical precepts of Historical-Cultural Psychology. To this end, a bibliographic study was carried out that involved the discussion and articulation of the elements that form such a reform, especially those related to the formative itineraries, and their relations with the development of thought in concepts, this being the main neoformation to be achieved in the period of adolescence. Through the theoretical reflections, we ponder that the new proposal reduces the access of students to the knowledge historically produced by humanity, which, in turn, implies the limitation of the possibilities of psychic development of adolescents, consolidating even more the social inequalities existing in Brazil.
