That said, I was wholly taken with Schmitt’s relational approach to autobiography and embraced his key argument that the reader’s role and experience in that relationship is critical to understanding autobiographical accounts. The Phenomenology of Autobiography clearly offers new lines of inquiry for dialogue in the study of traditional autobiography and proves an insightful and timely contribution to our discussions.
