Anaerobic ammonium oxidation is a new process in which ammonium is oxidized with nitrate serving as the electron acceptor under anaerobic conditions, producing dinitrogen gas, and has been given the name ‘Anammox’ (anaerobic ammonia oxidation), and has be patented.
