Configuraciones circunflejas en la entonación del español mexicano

This work describes the acoustical properties of several types of circumflex contours in declarative sentences in Mexican Spanish, through the analysis of tokens coming from sociolinguistic interviews. Circumflex perception is triggered by the nuclear accent L + iH * followed by a descent, L% or L-. There are at least two structures with that general pattern, L + iH * L%, and L + iH * L- H%. Other structures are similar to the more characteristic patterns, but differ in some aspects: a smaller raising (described as L + H * ), absence of a fall after the tonal peak (showed as M%, H %, H-). Besides, there is an interesting number of downward declaratives (L * L%).
