Abstract

Periodontitis is a progressive infectious disease caused by poor oral hygiene ultimately leading to teeth loss .It caused by various types of  oral bacteria. It may affect pregnant women with poor oral care .The consequent immune response against oral bacteria causing periodontitis leading to release toxic mediators that affect the heath of fetus and mother . Understanding such mechanism is important to avoid the consequent morbidity and health complications to fetus and mother .Many studies now has been put down to focus on the relation between low periodontal health of pregnant women and pre-term labor and low birth weight.
