La memoria de gobierno del virrey Duque de Alburquerque, 1710

The unpublished government memorial left to his successor by Francisco Fernandez de la Cueva Enriquez, Duke of Alburquerque, Viceroy of New Spain from 1702 to 1710, during the critical period of the Spanish Succession War is here presented. According to the introduction, this document reflects how Alburquerque achieved to maintain Novohispanic fidelity to the new Bourbon dynasty by means of preserving the traditional practices of political power negotiation between Crown representatives and the colonial oligarchy, which were characteristic of the Habsburg monarchy. This memorial also offers valuable information on issues such as the transpacific trade, the defense of the kingdom and the relationship between Church and State.
