Abstract
in the introduction, where Cauvin sets out a short chronological overview of the history of public history that is however mostly concerned with developments in the US. In itself, this is of course no problem; however, it would have been good to signal this focus in the title of the book. Within the US, the book provides the perfect handbook for a course on public history, at an undergraduate but especially at a graduate level. It is also an invaluable resource for both historians and non-historians who are already working in the field of public history. But even for those of us who are not focused on the US, the book is a valuable tool to help us think about new, innovative ways to teach and practise public history at home. Finally, I would highly recommend the book to young public historians anywhere in the world: it is a very helpful guide to better understand the field you are entering, and better negotiate your own role in it.
