Collocation and genre analysis: the phraseology of grammatical items in cancer research abstracts and articles

A functionnal view of collocation is presented in order to explore how a writer optimally selects and presents information in scientific abstracts to support the view that coherence may not be based on whole texts : but on 'short range phenomena' (Sinclair 1991).
