tlooto Summary

The literary deployment of Scots and English in 18th century UK reflected a complex relationship between languages.

Abstract

Abstract:This paper argues that the literary deployment of varieties of Scots and English in the eighteenth century reflected something more complex and nuanced than has sometimes been argued. The complexities of this relationship are illustrated through the analysis of certain key texts published during the years before and after the emergence of the United Kingdom.
