LSA fills a gap in sociolinguistics studies of multilingual societies in Southern Africa.
Abstract
Southern Africa provides a fascinating laboratory in which the complex dynamics of multilingual societies can be studied. Although this region offers almost unlimited scope for sociolinguists and scholars of related disciplines, relatively few books have been published in these fields. In this regard Language in South Africa (LSA) and its predecessor, Language and social history: studies in South African sociolinguistics (LSH), fill a major gap.
