Cathy Cohen
Abstract
This is a translation of the article "Punks, bulldaggers and welfare queens the radical potential of queer politics?",by American political scientist Cathy Cohen. The article problematizes the queer theory's "single oppression" approach, pointing out the boundaries in the civil rights-centered queer political agenda, for it reinforces dichotomies between heterosexuality and queerity rather than destabilizing categories and binarities of sexual identity by not incorporating into analysis and strategy the role of race, class and gender oppression, The article also provides an intersectional approach to queer activism, evoking other identity categories to the discussion of sexually marginalized subjects.
