NACIONALIDAD Y CIUDADANÍA: UNA APROXIMACIÓN HISTÓRICO-FUNCIONAL

The concept of nationality and citizenship are institutional, but also historical, institutions that can be seen as different from a functional perspective. Citizenship was created as concept in Greece , but was next to extinction when the concept of nationality was growing, since Rome to the creation of the National States. Later, nationality acquired an ethnic and cultural meaning, which was also used a requirement for citizenship. During the XXth century, the democratic processes have changed these ideas, creating a more universal reading both of citizenship and nationality.
