Abstract
Objective To examine distance perception in seaman for the establishment of seaman selection criteria. Methods Distance perception was examined in 245 seamen and 87 seafearing students by distance perception test instrument. Results Distance perception in seaman of different age, work age and sailing age did not exhibit significant different; distance perception in seaman of different headship, source and education did not exhibit significant different; distance perception in seamen was better than in seafaring students. Conclusions Distance perception is a steady item of seaman perceptibility, which fits to be one of the seaman selection criteria. Different criteria should be used to evaluate seaman and seafearing students.
