Correlation between families circumstances and learning motivation in medical students

Objective To explore the correlation between the family circumstances and learning motivation in medical students,and provide science basis for the pertinent teaching strategies. Methods Total 1080 undergraduates in Guangzhou medical university were selected by random sampling. The learning motivation scale was employed to evaluated the learning motivation of medical students and analyze the correlation between the family circumstances and learning motivation. Results The external motivation score was 22. 850 ± 0. 201,internal motivation score was 27. 030 ± 0. 218. The students having a better sensation of family economic situation got the highest score of external motivation score( 27. 000 ±1. 421),and the students having a better sensation of his specialty got the highest score of internal motivation score30. 85 ± 0. 548( P 0. 05). The differences between the mother's educational background and learning motivation were statistically significant. The family economic conditions was negatively correlated both with exogenous motivation scores( r =- 0. 122,P 0. 05),and endogenous motivation scores( r =- 0. 145,P 0. 05). Conclusion The overall situation of learning motivation in medical students is not outstanding. The students with a better hard family environment have a higher level of learning motivation.
