Abstract

Interestingly, molten metal catalysts have provided an effective route for the production of hydrogen from methane without deactivating the catalyst. This system can be studied in detail. While much better solar pathways may certainly be developed with a longer term perspective, current SMR plants can be easily integrated with concentrated solar systems, to drastically reduce energy cost and upstream CO 2 emission of production, as burning methane to directly produce the steam in the plant, or hydrocarbons to indirectly produce the steam upstream in power plants passing through electricity, makes no sense.
