tlooto Summary

This special issue aims at contributing to cover the gap in knowledge about PE effects on gender equality, and address the state of the art of the research on the interplay between platform economy and gender.

Abstract

The COVID-19 crisis has accelerated the expansion of the platform economy (PE), which promotes working from distributed places mediated by digital platforms, and is disrupting work and life organisation. To date, PE effects on gender equality are largely unexplored, while in parallel gender equality achievements are recoiling, and gender-based violence has intensified. This special issue aims at contributing to cover this gap, and address the state of the art of the research on the interplay between platform economy and gender. The introduction to the special issue provides an overview of the topic and of the special issue contributions. © 2022, Alexander von Humboldt Institute for Internet and Society.
