Abstract

Abstract Background Based on the call to include technology in nursing education and the growing demand for online instruction, self-regulated e-learning modules are an innovative teaching strategy to help improve student success and outcomes. Problem A learning needs analysis determined the addition of a self-directed, self-paced e-learning module could provide an avenue for students to better prepare for a medium-fidelity pediatric dehydration simulation scenario. Approach A collaborative, multidisciplinary project team consisting of a librarian/instructional designer, a faculty content expert, and a faculty content consultant was organized. The team developed an e-learning module using the theory of self-regulated learning. This module was designed to be an asynchronous, stand alone, self-paced adjunct to better prepare undergraduate nursing students for pediatric simulation. Conclusion The addition of an e-learning module will allow students to be better engaged with the content and more actively involved in their own learning.
