Abstract
This article discusses eVTOL (electric vertical takeoff and landing) aircraft technology. The groundbreaking eVTOL technology has become a major focus of urban air mobility solutions and promises to become a reality in the near future, as it offers several advantages over conventional helicopters. As of the writing of this paper, several aeronautical companies are competing to bring the first eVTOL aircraft into commercial operation. However, there are large challenges to overcome, ranging from battery technology to certification regulations. This paper discusses the major designs currently under development, their advantages and handicaps, and the challenges posed by civil certification.
