Not every source carries the same weight, and in academic work the difference has consequences. A preprint has not been reviewed. A predatory journal has been paid rather than reviewed. A conference abstract is often a few hundred words with no method section. Each can be worth reading and none should be cited as though it were a peer-reviewed article without saying so. An answer that shows where each source was published lets you make that judgement yourself, which is the part that cannot be delegated: the strength of your argument is bounded by the weakest source you leaned on.
Should I avoid citing preprints?
Not necessarily, particularly in fast-moving fields, but label them. Citing a preprint as though it were reviewed is the problem.
How do I tell if a journal is peer reviewed?
Check DOAJ for open access titles and the journal's stated process. Unclear or absent review information is itself an answer.
Does peer review mean a paper is correct?
No. It means it passed a threshold of scrutiny. Appraising the study is still your job, whatever the venue.
